Purpose

Provide system administration support for the Environmental Sciences Laboratory (ESL) of Applied Research Laboratories.

Essential Functions

Deploy, configure, maintain and support PC based Windows and Linux operating systems on both servers and workstations. Deploy, configure, maintain and support Apple Mac OSX operating systems on workstations. Maintain third-party administrative software (i.e., anti-virus, software inventory and performance monitoring). Administer system services, including Active Directory, DNS, NIS, user authentication and file serving in a heterogeneous network. Deploy, configure and maintain fiber and Ethernet network infrastructure. Deploy, configure and maintain SAN subsystems. Develop, improve, and implement new solutions that meet the resources demands of the system.

Required qualifications

HS/GED. Proficiency in Windows, RedHat Linux and Mac OSX in a heterogeneous environment. Working knowledge of networking concepts such as VLANs, routing, subnetting, trunking and ACLs. Experience with deploying and troubleshooting SAN technologies. Ability to assess security posture by identifying and mitigating new and existing vulnerabilities using scanners such as OpenSCAP, Retina and Nessus. Experience with Risk Management Framework and/or DISA IA controls. Attention to detail. Reg/punctual attendance. Must hold a DoD 8570.01 approved certification to satisfy an IAT Level I position or must be willing to obtain certification(s) within 90 days from hire date. U.S. Citizen. Applicant selected will be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field. Five or more years of related experience as a systems administrator. Technical certifications with emphasis on security from Comptia, Microsoft, RedHat, and Cisco. Five or more years of network administration experience. Knowledge of Linux shell commands and scripting languages such as Perl, Python, and Visual Basic. Working knowledge of configuration management technologies such as Puppet, Satellite, Cobbler. Experience in high performance clustering. Experience deploying and supporting Lustre file systems. Experience in deploying and supporting DoD secured networks. Eligibility for immediate access to classified information.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
