Newsroom Copywriter – Apple – Santa Clara Valley, CA

The Newsroom breaks news of Apple products and initiatives, and is the official word from Apple. Information on Newsroom should be accurate, objective, and concise. The tone of voice is expressed in the third-person, and active—like a newspaper.
The Copywriter role on the Newsroom team will work with a contracted Copy Editor to review and edit stories developed by the Corporate Communications team. This includes taking copy from the Corporate Communications project lead, checking for grammar, tense, voice, proper names; leveraging Newsroom’s style guide in the process (a modified version of AP Style), and communicating those changes to the Newsroom Content Manager working on the story. As necessary, the Corporate Communications project lead will be supported by the Copywriter in editing and rewriting the story. The Copywriter role will also be called upon to write captions, rework headlines or subheads, and otherwise collaborate with the Corporate Communications project lead to quickly and thoroughly incorporate team feedback and finalize the copy.
The Copywriter should be aware of the latest SEO practices and be able to recommend the right words to hyperlink. This role will succesfully edit copy to adhere to character counts and other SEO best practices while preserving the main points of copy from the Corporate Communications team.
Occasionally, drafting copy for Tweets and other internal communications will arise; this role may be called upon to draft options and collaborate with Corporate Communications team members in the realization of these projects. An ability to understand and write in Newsroom and other tones of voice will serve this role well.
The Copywriter will be managed day-to-day by the Associate Creative Director and the Lead Cross-Functional Producer of Newsroom, and work with a small team of designers, content managers, and copy editor. The Copywriter will also collaborate with a significant portion of the Corporate Communications team in the realization of stories that run the gamut of Apple’s products and initiatives.
The role needs to be self-motivated and is at the center of collaboration in realizing Newsroom posts. The Copywriter will be interacting with a variety of team members at various levels within the organization. A background in journalism and AP style is not required but will help significantly. Ability to multi-task while maintaining consistent, thorough editing and version control is also fundamental to the success of this role.
