The Communications Coordinator is primarily responsible for managing the university’s internal and external communications vehicles of the neuroscience departments, including neurology, neurosurgery, and psychiatry. This position will report to the KU Medical Center Communications office and will divide time between the four department locations. The role will develop content related to the neurology, neurosurgery, and psychiatry departments for a wide range of university vehicles, including websites, annual reports, brochures and other print and digital materials. The Communications Coordinator also will work closely with the University of Kansas Health System marketing representatives, including cooperative efforts to promote the work of both organizations in the neurosciences.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in journalism, mass communications or strategic communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing for various print, web and digital communication channels.
  • Proficient in the use of content management systems and other digital communications tools.
  • Collaborative and able to succeed in a team environment.
  • Self-motivated with ability to take direction as appropriate.
  • Proficient in the use of application software packages including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Must be able to work well under pressure to meet deadlines and be flexible to work some evening and weekends as needed.
  • Professional, timely and able to keep information confidential.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project development experience with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience producing content for multiple channels.
  • Familiarity with marketing, branding or service promotion.
  • Experience in cross-team project integration or large project development.
