Engineering Manager – Cobham – Orchard Park, NY

Cobham is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead new product development; plan and manage new projects and manage engineering resources. This position is located in Orchard Park, NY.

Key Responsibilities:
The leadership of new product development and associated coordination with Value Stream Product Director

Planning and managing new projects through the proper application of the Cobham standard design process and the appropriate use of Design for Six Sigma tools

Respective planning and managing of engineering resources

The leadership and development of design engineers

Budgeting and management of B&P / R&D expenditures

Coordinate and direct projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities. Guide, review, and approve product design and changes

Support preparation of budgets, bids and contracts

Assists and directs less experienced engineers; provide guidance in design and development of primary and sub-system integration. Utilizes the ePDR (Electronic Personal Development Review) process to communicate and document career progression activities for direct reports

Participates in cross functional brainstorming and troubleshooting activities

Lead failure investigations and special projects as required

Initiate and support new business activities in coordination with the business development team

Actively manage team Private Venture spending plan and track results

Ensure that the Cobham standard design processes are diligently adhered to on each new product development effort

Responsible for ensuring that appropriate Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) concepts are applied consistently to each project

Collaborate with management, operations/supply chain, business development, and marketing staff to discuss project specifications and procedures

Accurate planning of team Private Venture funding

Effective mentoring of junior engineers

Proper application and oversight of DFSS, Lean and Six Sigma techniques

Effective and accurate ePDRs for direct reports using SMART objectives

SOF- E project KPIs

SHE conformance on new product designs

Minimum Requirements:
Minimum Completed BS in Engineering

Minimum of 8 years’ experience in the Military/Aerospace field

Experience in new product development process, design for Manufacturing, Lean Engineering and Six Sigma

Experience with Microsoft Office Suite

This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by export laws of the US. In order to be eligible you must be either a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Preferred Qualifications:
Completed BS in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering is preferred

Knowledge of Life Cycle Management (LCM) principles

Possess good oral and written communication skills as well as being comfortable in making presentations

Have sound problem resolution, judgment and decision making skills

Basic understanding of corporate financial principals and terminology

People management experience preferred

Have a reputation for establishing and maintaining solid personal and business relationships

Ability to effectively manage resources, provide feedback and establish career progression plans

Strong interpersonal skills

Strong strategy skills
