U.S. Facilities and Operations:
Supporting product sales are a network of nationwide marketing and manufacturing locations. Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, is home to the U.S. Corporate Headquarters along with the marketing offices of the Hospital, Outpatient Markets (OPM), Renal Therapies, Vascular Interventional, International, and OEM Divisions. Central Admixture Pharmacy Services, Inc.(CAPS®) is also managed from this location. The nearby Allentown, Pennsylvania, facility manufactures Needle-free products, IV Safety Catheters, Anesthesia Systems, Introducers, Pharmacy Admixture products. Vascular products including Right Heart Catheters and Interventional Accessories are also manufactured in Allentown. The Irvine, California facility produces IV Solutions, Basic and Specialty Nutrition, Drug Delivery, and BTC products. Infusion Pump Systems are manufactured in Carrollton, Texas and IV administration and IV and Irrigation sets are produced in the Dominican Republic.

  • Position Summary:
  • The Director of Line Engineering & Maintenance will lead a team of technical engineering subject matter experts and day to day maintenance supervisors/managers to support manufacturing operations for the Irvine Site. This position directs and aligns the activities of multi-disciplined engineers to achieve manufacturing goals and objectives in support of the S&OP plan. Works collaboratively in a team environment with peers from Manufacturing and Quality in support of production activities. Establishes metrics including OEE’s, machine uptime, capacity, etc. as required to measure and track performance related to rate, quality and yield. Direct all Technical functions within the business unit to support ongoing manufacturing operations including controls and automation, continuous improvement efforts, optimization of existing processes and troubleshooting and resolution of manufacturing issues. Responsible for deviation reports, root cause analysis, engineering studies, and investigative reports. Develop and execute strategic plan to achieve short and long term business objectives. Supports Equipment Engineering to establish specifications for new equipment or modifications associated with improvement of existing equipment. Works collaboratively with operations in establishing the equipment requirements needed to deliver against the site operational goals and objectives including process validation. Key member of site Technical Services leadership team. Responsible for approximately 6 direct reports and approximately 150 exempt and nonexempt employees.
  • Responsibilities: Essential Duties
  • Collaborate with stakeholders in support of manufacturing, maintenance and engineering to establish user requirements associated with new equipment purchases and/or modifications.
  • Partner with stakeholders in Manufacturing and Quality in determining and meeting the KPI’s for the product line.
  • Contribute to the development of company engineering priorities, long term strategies and goals.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance Systems in establishing and ensuring that PM’s are effective and where possible, incorporate the proper predictive applicable technologies.
  • Identify resources to implement minor projects identified to improve machine/process performance.
  • Ensure PM’s are executed on time as needed.
  • Establish and monitor metrics associated with OEE and other metrics to drive business objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with FDA, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies as appropriate.
  • In collaboration with Human Resources, oversees and directs all performance management, training, development, job descriptions, and safety procedures for all Manufacturing Engineering personnel.
  • Develop, implement and monitor the Technical Services operational budget to ensure compliance with approved expense limitations and determine causes of variance to budget.
  • Review applicable project activities and provide technical expertise and guidance.
  • Supervise and direct contract personnel and outside vendors in the performance of contracted services.
  • Perform high degree of both internal and external personnel interfaces.

  • Expertise: Knowledge & Skills
  • Demonstrated expertise within an engineering specialty(s) area.
  • Understanding of statistics and its application in Engineering.
  • Knowledge of GMPs both basic and unique to the department’s specialty(s) area.
  • Software packages such as MS Office.
  • Understanding of quality by design.
  • Excellent understanding of manufacturing methods related to the department specialty(s) area.

  • Ability to constructively analyze, challenge and propose alternatives to complicated technical issues and personnel issues faced by staff.
  • Expertise: Qualifications-Experience/Training/Education/Etc
  • Required:
  • BS degree in an Engineering discipline with 8-10 years of experience in Engineering position with at least 3 years demonstrated successful performance/experience in an applicable Engineering management position.
  • Limited domestic and international travel.
  • Desired:
  • Experience in a Pharmaceutical Engineering management position.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
