CARB-X has an unparalleled opportunity for a talented individual to join our core team at Boston University in the role of Accelerator Lead. CARB-X is a young entrepreneurial endeavor, focused on accelerating the pre-clinical development of products to address antibiotic resistance, including drugs, vaccines and diagnostics. The scope of CARB-X work includes soliciting applications for funding from external organizations, evaluating applications, granting awards, supporting awardees, and monitoring progress. Approximately $500M has already been committed to this work, and over 350 applications for funding have been processed. CARB-X has more than 20 innovative therapeutic and diagnostic projects in the portfolio aready and will continue to grow rapidly.
The Accelerator Lead will be responsible for managing a wide range of support capabilities to the biotech and pharma companies in the CARB-X portfolio. This support will provided through an expanding network of accelerators that partner with CARB-X, which currently includes the California Life Sciences Institute, MassBio, and RTI International. The Accelerator Lead will work with these partners to provide tailored support to each company in the portfolio, accounting for both technical and business oriented support needs. Another role will be leading members of the accelerator network to develop solutions for multiple companies where there are common needs. Community development is also a key part of the role: helping members of the CARB-X community connect with each other and with other relevant experts in the broader community. Finally, the Accelerator Lead will track and report on the benefits of the acceleration network to support continuous improvement.
CARB-X is a fast-paced environment where creativity, flexibility, and collaborationare essential. This is a full-time position, grant funded for up to four years
Must have an understanding of the business aspects of biotechs and small pharma companies, e.g. fundraising, managing intellectual property, business plan development. At least 3 years’ experience in a related role, such as team lead for a broad consortium, or an alliance manager. Experience with monitoring and evaluation preferred. Also must be a strong networker.
- Advanced degree in business or science expected.
- At least 5 years related experience with the business or operational aspects of start-up company support efforts; experience with biotechs and/or small pharma companies preferred.
- Experience with incubators, accelerators, or similar organizations
- Demonstration of excellent communication skills, both written and oral
