Buyer – Century 21 – New York, NY

Responsible for purchasing merchandise and procurement for a particular segment of the business. Works in partnership with the Divisional Merchandise Manager on the merchandise direction in brand acquisitions and deliver compelling fashion right assortments to our consumers. Develops strategy to ensure the DNA of superior brands at off-price is consistent with all other families of business throughout Century 21. Must be strategic and confident enough to work with key principals from all major companies in the industry. Expected to be in the market 50% of the time.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports company DNA direction with best brands, best prices, and develops strategies in support of the total company
  • To deliver both trend and brand product while driving agreed to margin plans
  • Fosters an environment that promotes personal development and personally sets the example for development of associate and assistant buyers
  • Works with the DMM and GMM to set the overall strategy and merchandise direction for the business
  • Demonstrates a passion to be fashion forward and fashion-right, unafraid to take risks
  • Direct assortments that support the needs of the customer and the financial objectives of the merchandise division
  • Ensure that pricing, e-commerce, and marketing travel with the brick-and-mortar strategy of best brands, and best prices
  • Utilize analysis to drive decisions
  • Works with the planning organization to develop by-store assortment plans that support overall strategy of in-stock positioning for key merchandise categories, classifications, items and vendors
  • Work with the vendors to strengthen market relationships and knowledge of market trend, strengths and weaknesses; must push to meet with highest level of management and key decision makers
  • Understand competitor’s strengths, weaknesses and strategy
  • Facilitate and promote timely communication and cooperation between stores, merchandising functions, and resources

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of Buyer experience in a full-line department store, specialty store or off-price retailer
